While new forecasts are painting a worst-case-scenario with more than million deaths, drug companies armed with sophisticated technologies are racing against extraordinary financial, scientific and practical obstacles in the search for vaccines or treatments. But even if someone did invent an effective, life-saving drug that could be mass-produced quickly, the effort could be foiled by the lack of a simple, basic, old fashioned technology – refrigeration.
